Position Description

Location: Salem, VA

Description: Registered Nurse – Emergency Department | LewisGale Medical Center

Start Date: 06/23/2025 Duration: 13 Weeks Location: 1900 Electric Road, Salem, VA 24153

Shift & Scheduling

  • Night Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
  • Weekends Required: Four weekend shifts per four-week scheduling period
    • Nights: Friday or Saturday
    • Days: Saturday or Sunday
  • On Call: Not required
Unit Information

  • Beds: 27
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 1 charge RN, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics; increases by 4-5 RNs at 11 AM, and 1-2 RNs at 3 PM
    • Night Shift: 1 charge RN, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics
  • Patient Ratios: 4-6:1
  • EMR System: Meditech
Skills & Experience RequirementsRequired:

  • Completion of 2-3 prior travel assignments
  • 2-3 years ER experience

Preferred:

  • High acuity ER experience
  • Fast-paced ER experience with high patient volume
  • Experience managing patient ratios of 5:1

Typical Procedures:

  • Rapid sequence intubation (RSI)
  • Sepsis interventions
  • Stroke protocol with tPA administration
  • Central line placement
  • Care of psych patients
  • Facility transfers (EMTALA compliance)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • PALS (AHA)

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC
  • ENPC
  • NRP
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Dress Code

  • Scrub Color: Navy blue or white
  • Unacceptable Attire: Not specified
