Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The MRI Technologist works with leadership and radiologists to provide, enhance and maintain high levels for image quality and patient safety. This position operates the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Reports to department leadership.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Performs and assists with MRI examinations and procedures under the direction of a Radiologist to produce exams which are used in medical diagnosis to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body.
    • Follows established policies, procedures, exam protocols and regulations to promote patient safety and ensure a safe working environment in both modalities.
    • Provides services to support inpatient, Emergency Department (ED) and outpatient imaging with ability to perform specialty imaging procedures (abnormal anatomy, congenital cardiac, and fetal imaging).
    • Works in conjunction with the Sedation and Anesthesia departments to facilitate and ensure timely placement of add-on/stat/urgent examinations.
    • Assists and supports orientation and training of organizational staff, students, department personnel and new employees related to safety, patient preparations, job roles and proper procedures.
    • Provides and promotes a friendly work environment for all staff while communicating effectively with all personnel and departments.
    • Assures customer satisfaction (interdepartmental, community and patient/family) with services.
    • Evaluates MRI images for technical quality.
    • Maintains and monitors MRI zoning to ensure safety for staff and patients.
    • Seeks guidance from management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies, protocols and standards of practice.
    • Supports successful onboarding, orientations, training of new MRI modality team members.
    • Provides charge/lead MRI Technologist coverage as trained and assigned.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Required Licenses and/or Certifications
      • Certification as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required at the time of hire.
      • Registered Technologist (R.T.) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required at the time of hire.
      • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Required Education and Experience
      • Completion of a program and/or training from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology required.
      • One year experience in a Radiology and/or Diagnostic modality required.
    • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      • Proficiency in MRI principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of MRI Scanners required.
      • Must possess strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to interact and work as a team with physicians, clinical personnel, multiple departments, patients/families and diverse individuals.
      • Demonstrates analytical skills necessary to determine best method of providing requested radiographs based on the individual case and basic technical principles, ensuring clear undistorted radiographs.
      • Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.
      • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills with attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Employees in this job classification perform Laboratory, Radiological, Diagnostic or Imaging procedures in a healthcare environment with moderate exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, odors or extremes in temperature. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous materials, radiation, radio nucleotides, medicinal preparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment. Following proper safety and health procedures reduces potential for personal harm or injury. Moderate adverse working conditions due to the need to perform diagnostic testing and patient care procedures.
